Who we are

The African College of Neuropsychopharmacology (AfCNP) is a continental platform bringing together psychiatrists, neuroscientists, psychologists, brain scientists, and pharmacologists to advance brain and mental health across Africa.

Founded to fill a critical gap in representation, AfCNP provides a space for African voices in global neuroscience while addressing the continent’s unique research and clinical challenges. Through our annual congresses, flagship training schools, webinars, and partnerships, we foster scientific exchange, mentorship, and capacity-building for early-career researchers and clinicians.

Working in collaboration with regional and international partners, AfCNP is committed to strengthening research, education, and policy engagement. We aim to build a vibrant network that empowers African scientists and ensures that locally relevant solutions shape the future of mental health care.

Our approach

Our Mission
Our mission is to advance brain and mental health across Africa by uniting psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, neurologists, pharmacologists, and other professionals.

We do this by fostering research, education, clinical practice, and mentorship that strengthen capacity on the continent. Through congresses, training schools, webinars, and global partnerships, we support early-career scientists and promote culturally relevant solutions that address Africa’s unique mental health and neurological challenges while contributing to global neuroscience.

Our Vision
Our vision is an Africa where brain and mental health thrive and African expertise shapes the future of neuroscience and mental health globally.

We seek to build strong research networks, empower professionals, and develop innovative, culturally grounded approaches that transform lives. By amplifying Africa’s contributions, we aim to ensure that our region is fully represented in global knowledge, policy, and practice.
